Cleaning Your Motorcycle

Keep your motorcycle clean and regularly checked with a good wash so it’s something you are proud of. Here are some tips.

  • Only use cleaning products that are specifically for motorcycles or vehicles.
  • Only clean when fully cooled.
  • Don’t use a high-pressure water spray as it could damage the paint.
  • Rinse first with luke warm to cool water to get the thick of the dirt off.
  • Clean with a sponge or cloth with cool water, moving in circles.
  • Lights and plastic areas should be cleaned using a damp cloth and some mild detergent.
  • After cleaning, rinse again with cool clean water.
  • Dry with a clean cloth, moving in circles again.
  • Lubricate the drive chain.
  • Run the engine and test the brakes, pumping them to restore performance if necessary.

And that’s it! If you enjoy a special finish, you can find high quality finishing wax – make sure it’s specifically for bikes or cars – and rub the wax over the bike for a squeaky clean appearance that really gleams.

Make sure your bike is completely dry before you ride it and test over any performance issues it may have.
