Tips for First Time Buyers

So you want to buy your first motorcycle? Good for you! Since you’re probably feeling a little nervous and unsure of what to expect, here are some simple tips to point you in the right direction for your first bike.

Comfort

It sounds like an obvious point, but it’s easy to forget. When you’re checking out the bike in the shop, make sure it feels good. You want something you are able to sit on for a while, with the ability to move and see all of the road and your mirrors. Don’t just go by how cool it looks.

Used vs New

This depends on how much you are willing to spend on your first bike. Budget spenders might find second hand best, but this comes with things you need to be wary of, too. New bikes will be better quality but the salesperson will just want to sell. Use your head and take your time.

Two Cylinders

Beginners should start with two cylinders for their first buy. There really isn’t any need to go bigger than this, at least not yet. That can be your next bike.

What’s it for

How will you be using your bike? For practice, long trips, short trips, races? This is one of the important things you need to consider so you can decide on style, speed, power, size, price, and overall look.

Take Your Time

At the end of the day, the salesperson just wants to make a sale. Mull over your decision and don’t feel rushed into your purchase. Sometimes sleeping on it can be the best thing you can do.
